Project :: SMAP
Sunday, February 10th, 2002Apple Proliferation (AP) plant disease has been a remarkable spread in most of the fruit growing area in Trentino (northern Italy) and south-west Germany in the last 5 years. Apple growers are concerned about the spreading of the infection (due to a phytoplasma) because it leads to complete economic loss of production. At present no curative treatments are known for AP disease. The main goal of the SMAP project is to develop a model of disease, based on the evidence of observable data, to achieve a good comprehension of AP dissemination, evolution and regression. Of course the ultimate objective is to arrange an effective treatment to fight the disease.
